Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (abbreviated as PES 2012 and officially known in Asia as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2012) is the eleventh edition of Pro Evolution Soccer series developed and published by Konami with the assistance of Blue Sky's production team. Segundo o Produtor executivo do jogo Shingo Takatsuka Seabass, Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 terá uma grande melhoria na jogabilidade referente às versões anteriores, focando principalmente na inteligência artificial do jogo (sistema batizado pela Konami de Sistema IA).
Começando pela a arbitragem, que será aprimorada e remodelada, com novas movimentações e incluindo uma plena implementação da lei da vantagem, com o árbitro punindo e advertindo jogadores depois de jogadas desleais quando a bola estiver parada.
A remoção do "bug catch-up", onde os defensores paravam os dribles dos atacantes com muita facilidade independentemente do ritmo ou qualidade do atacante.
O retorno do modo TRAINING CHALLENGER estará de volta na nova versão do jogo. Neste modo os fãs poderão realizar treinamentos para melhorar habilidades ofensivas, defensivas, faltas, penalidades, lançamentos e dribles. Segundo a Konami, este modo foi bastante cobrado nos Feedbacks passados por fãs.
A inteligência artificial dos goleiros tão criticada na última versão, também será melhorada com novas animações e performances dos goleiros, possibilitando aos fãs da série uma experiência mais realista e tornando os arqueiros mais confiáveis.
A jogabilidade ofensiva será mais fluida, com uma melhora na resposta no jogo em equipe outro ponto muito criticado na última versão, ultrapassagens (overlaps) voltarão ao jogo permitindo a execução de jogadas táticas e de inteligência.
Jogadores sem posse de bola abrirão espaços e também podendo ser controlados de maneira exata e precisa.
Na edição 2012 também é possível criar novos estádios na opção "Criar Estádios", onde os fãs podem criar e armazenar 25 novos estádios. Este modo foi aprimorado atendendo a opinião dos fãs da série.
O D-pad (Controle Direcional) ausente nas primeiras demonstrações ao público, foi incluído novamente devido ao enorme número de fãs que disseram ainda utilizar o D-pad, porém esta decisão não será mantida por muito tempo, segundo Jon Murphy ( Executivo Europeu do jogo) nos futuros jogos da série a sua utilização deverá ser abolida de vez.

As decisões serão melhoradas, e a lei da vantagem será totalmente modificada juntamente com o excesso de impedimento de outras versões que paralisavam a partida constantemente. A arbitragem só intervirá quando realmente for necessário, porém a severidade em mostrar cartões também foi revisada.
Os Árbitros que regerem jogos da UEFA Champions League , UEFA Europa League e UEFA Super Cup irão vestir o uniforme oficial da competição da UEFA.
Os estádios também sofrerão alterações desde o posicionamento de câmera (que irá variar de estádio para estádio), até o gramado que terá mudanças visuais, tudo para possibilitar aos fãs uma identidade visual para cada palco de jogo.
Jogadores famosos terão um jeito singular de movimentação em campo, dribles, chutes, postura, tudo será revisado para humanizar os atletas do jogo.
As cobranças de penalidade máxima voltarão ao estilo tradicional, com visão frontal do gol e comando simplificados para a execução.
A climatização do jogo também foi modificada, será possível ter a visão dos reservas fazendo aquecimento, do técnico a beira do campo, e uma melhora considerável na torcida.
A ajuda no passe (Novo item do jogo) permitirá aos fãs determinarem o nível de assistência na Inteligência Artificial ao passar a bola. Os jogadores podem optar por uma das cinco definições de apoio no total.

Após três anos de parceria com Lionel Messi estrela argentina do Barcelona estampando a capa do jogo (Messi foi capa desde a versão 2009), Jon Murphy informou o fim da parceria, segundo o produtor europeu do jogo a mudança deve-se ao fato de um início de uma nova era para o PES. Murphy ainda agradeceu os três anos de trabalho junto à estrela argentina, e ressaltou a importância do craque na evolução da série.
No dia 17 de agosto de 2011 a Konami anunciou que a capa do jogo será o craque Cristiano Ronaldo. O português já estampou a capa do jogo na versão 2008. Nas Américas ele dividirá a capa com Neymar.
A capa da versão do jogo para as Américas é exclusiva, com Neymar e Cristiano Ronaldo. O português, que atua no clube espanhol Real Madrid, aparece em uma disputa de bola com Neymar, do Santos.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 marcará a estreia de Paulo Henrique Ganso e Neymar com suas feições originais, que podem ser atualizadas, assim como todos os outros jogadores.

Segundo Tim Blair, gerente de marketing do PES 2012, a inclusão do Campeonato Brasileiro depende da liberação da CBF, a ideia agrada muito os produtores do jogo, porém é provável que a liga canarinho deverá marcar presença apenas na versão 2013.
