Iron Maiden




History:On the road of the rock and roll, Iron Maiden is considered  one of the most successful bands in the history of heavy metal, having sold over 85 million albums worldwide registered. with over three decades.  His work influenced many rock and metal bands, like Pantera, Sepultura, Anthrax, Angra, Metallica, Helloween, Death, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Blind Guardian, Mystery, Slayer and many others.Iron Maiden was formed in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, formerly of the bands Gypsy's Kiss and Smiler. Originally from London, it was one of the leading bands of the musical movement that became known as NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The name "Iron Maiden" ("Iron Maiden"), namesake of a medieval instrument of torture that appears in the film The Man in the Iron Mask, based on work by Alexandre Dumas.Iron Maiden almost never sings about drugs, sex, drink and women. The lyrics of their songs are based on English literature and historical facts, especially by Steve Harris is a student of history, especially Egyptian, and the singer Bruce Dickinson is formed in the course of history. Another aspect of the band is known mascot Eddie, which prints the cover of all the studio albums and appears in live performances.In 2002, the band won the Ivor Novello award in recognition of achievements in a parameter internationally as one of the most successful partnerships composition of England. Paul Bruce Dickinson (August 7, 1958 Nottinghamshire, England) is a historian, aviator, tenor and lead singer, famous for his work as lead singer of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, entering the album The Number of the Beast in 1982, replacing Paul Di'Anno. It is considered by many as one of the best heavy metal vocalists in the world, alongside names like Ronnie James Dio and Rob Halford. According to Hit Parader, Bruce Dickinson is considered the 7th best heavy metal singer in the world

Adrian Frederik "H" Smith (February 27, 1957 London, England) is a guitarist known for playing the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It is considered along with Dave Murray one of the best and most influential guitarists today. He joined the band Iron Maiden, soon after the departure of Dennis Straton, at the suggestion of his friend Dave Murray. Adrian remained in Maiden during nine years (1981-1990) for the entry of Janick Gers and Bruce Dickinson came along in 1999, with whom he recorded two solo albums Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding.Before that he worked on other projects such as ASAP, including recording vocals and Psycho Motel.      

  

                   

Janick Robert Gers, better known as Janick Gers (Hartlepool, England, January 27, 1957) guitarist, member of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He joined the band in 1989 at the invitation of singer Bruce Dickinson, to replace Adrian Smith, who left the band in time to pursue a solo career. Gers is known for his striking stage presence and also by the soil extremely fast and difficult to be performed; the shows is very fond of jumping, running from one place to another, playing the instrument in the air and hit it on the walls. As a guitarist, Gers shows a heavier sound, as in the song 2 Minutes to Midnight, where the bassist and founder Steve Harris prefers the style of the original version Janick Gers. The guitarist was also part of the Ian Gillan Band, former lead singer of the band Deep Purple, besides playing with Bruce Dickinson on his solo career. Janick divided opinion among fans. On the one hand, he is idolized by his stage presence, technique and charisma. On the other, is hated by replacing Adrian Smith in his departure in 1990. Janick is still part of the group, even with the return of Adrian Smith in 1999, making the band has three guitarists: Smith, Gers and Dave Murray (co-founder of the band), plus the other members: Bruce Dickinson (lead singer) Steve Harris (bass) and Nicko McBrain (drummer of the group since 1982).

                  
                    
                     
    

Stephen Percy Harris (London, England March 12, 1956) is popularly known as Steve Harris. Steve is a founding member, bassist and main songwriter of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden that emerged in 1975. Harris and guitarist Dave Murray are the only ones who have all recorded albums banda.Steve worked as an architectural draftsman in London but gave up work when he founded the Iron Maiden. He contemplated to be footballer before becoming a musician - during the 1970s came to play in the youth of West Ham United, the team for which he twists.

                    



Nicko McBrain (stage name of Michael Henry McBrain, London, England June 5, 1952), is currently the drummer for Iron Maiden, which he joined in December 1982, replacing Clive Burr. It was before the band's drummer Trust. Unlike most heavy metal drummers, Nicko is not a frequent user of the double bass (a mechanism that allows you to play rhythms of musical notes on the bass drum set with both feet), considering this technique very complicated and has been developed so an incredibly fast technique with only one foot, which he can follow perfectly the accelerated rhythms of Steve Harris on bass

                   

Mascot:The mascot of the band is a zombie named Eddie the Head. He appeared on the covers of all albums and singles of Iron Maiden, the only single that Eddie does not appear on the cover is the song Wasting Love. Eddie is originally creating Derek Riggs but has had traces of several artists, including Melvyn Grant in the album Fear of the Dark. He also starred in a shooting game called Ed Hunter, as well as several comic booksThe band originally had a big mask (Noh) from a wheelbarrow that it  was underneath the battery in your presentations, and let go of tubes of fake blood (red paint) through the nose, smearing all hair drummer Doug Sampson. The mask was named "Eddie the Head" (Eddie the Head) and eventually became the mascot of the band. Eventually it was earning a body only from the cover of the first compact.A curiosity is that the character of the game Brutal Legend, Eddie Riggs is your first name in honor of the mascot, and the surname in homage to its creator (Derek Riggs).
             

 
                      

                    

Trivia:The name of the band Iron Maiden was inspired by a medieval instrument of torture in the film "The Man in the Iron Mask." This was also the nickname of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who appears on the covers of compact "Women in Uniform" and "Sanctuary."
In 1992 the band Iron Maiden was banned from playing in Chile. The Catholic Church has asked the government action against the presentation of the band and was answered. The term NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) was created by journalist Geoff Barton in a story about the Iron Maiden written for the magazine 'Sounds' in 1979. Later Geoff founded the Kerrang magazine today considered a bible of true Heavy Metal.
A fan of the band went into a coma after falling and hitting his head on the ground during a performance of Iron Maiden in 1989. Six months later aroused while he was listening to a tape deck, just a tape of the band Iron Maiden!
When "The Number Of The Beast" topped the albums charts, the members of Iron Maiden told the press that many strange things happened during the recording, such as amplifiers that refused to work for no apparent reason and tapes that went out or where they came from strange voices. But perhaps the best of the stories was that shortly after the recording of the title track the album's producer, the legendary Martin Birch, suffered a minor car accident, whose exact repair would have cost £ 666 ...They needed to publicize their work, then the members of Iron Maiden (Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Doug Sampson and Paul Di'Anno) collected 200 pounds and went to the Spacewood Studios in Cambridge, New Year's eve in 1979, where they recorded four songs: "Prowler", "Invasion," "Strange World" and "Iron Maiden". However, the money was insufficient to pay the master tape, and the only thing they got was only copies tapes unedited and without mixing.However, one of these copies ended up in the hands of Neal Kay, owner of Bandwagen Soundhouse, pub Kingsburry Circle, in the northwestern part of London. When it decided to play the tape one night, the audience came down, and then the Iron was invited to perform live on site, which until then it did not accept unknown bands!In October 1979 the band played a "showcase" (show demonstration to draw attention from labels, however, as none was interested, in November the band an own label, called "Hard Rock Records," and transform a demo tape independent disk. Then  EMI is interested, and the band signed with overpowering record on December 28 almost a month after the release of the EP, which it was never reprinted as it is today the most coveted item (and pirated) band.

The lyrics of "Stranger In A Strange Land", the album track "Somewhere In Time" is about an expedition that was lost at the North Pole, in which Adrian Smith found one of the survivors, this episode that inspired the band to write music, whose title is inspired by a book written by Robert Heinlein - but the music does not have any other relationship with the book.

O mascote da banda é um morto-vivo chamado Eddie the Head. Ele aparece nas capas de todos os álbuns e singles do Iron Maiden, o único single que não aparece o Eddie na capa é a canção Wasting Love. Eddie é originalmente criação de Derek Riggs, mas já teve traços de vários artistas, como Melvyn Grant no álbum Fear of the Dark. Ele também estrelou um jogo de tiro chamado Ed Hunter, além de diversas histórias em quadrinhos.

A banda tinha originalmente uma grande máscara (Noh) de uma carriola que ficava embaixo das baterias nas apresentações, e que por tubos soltava sangue falso (tinta vermelha) pelo nariz, sujando todo o cabelo do baterista Doug Sampson. A máscara foi batizada de "Eddie, a Cabeça" (Eddie the Head) e acabou se transformando no mascote da banda. Acabaria ganhando um corpo somente a partir da capa dos primeiros compactos.

 Sentindo que precisavam divulgar seu trabalho, os então integrantes do Iron Maiden (Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Doug Sampson e Paul Di'Anno) juntaram 200 libras e se dirigiram ao Spacewood Studios em Cambridge, na antevéspera do ano novo de 1979, onde gravaram quatro músicas: "Prowler", "Invasion", "Strange World" e "Iron Maiden". Porém, o dinheiro era insuficiente para pagar a fita master, e a única coisa que conseguiram foram cópias só fitas cassete sem edição e sem mixagem.

Entretanto, uma destas cópias foi parar na mão de Neal Kay, proprietário do Bandwagen Soundhouse, pub do Kingsburry Circle, na parte noroeste de Londres. Quando este resolveu tocar a fita numa noite, o público veio abaixo, e logo o Iron foi convidado para se apresentar ao vivo no local, que até então não aceitava bandas desconhecidas!

Em outubro de 1979 a banda faz um "showcase" (show de demonstração para chamar a atenção das gravadoras, porém, como nenhuma se interessou, em novembro a banda um selo próprio, chamado "Rock Hard Records", e transformam a fita demo num disco independente. Aí então a EMI se interessa, e a banda assina com a superpoderosa gravadora em 28 de dezembro, quase um mês após o lançamento do EP, que como nunca mais foi reeditado, é hoje em dia o ítem mais cobiçado (e pirateado) da banda.

A letra de "Stranger In A Strange Land", faixa do albúm "Somewhere In Time" fala sobre uma expedição que se perdeu no Pólo Norte, no qual Adrian Smith encontrou um dos sobreviventes, episódio este que inspirou a banda a escrever a música, cujo título é inspirado num livro escrito por Robert Heinlein - mas a música não têm nenhuma outra relação com o livro.
